Failed Houthi Ballistic Missile Launch Kills Family in Eastern Sanaa
An entire family was killed on Friday when a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces malfunctioned and struck a residential home in the Nehm district, east of Sanaa.
The Yemeni Armed Forces reported that the projectile was launched from the Ayal Sayyad area of Nehm but failed to maintain its intended trajectory. The missile impacted the residence of Mohammed Ahmed Al-Qasha while his family was gathered inside, resulting in the death of all occupants and causing significant structural damage to a neighboring property.
In an official statement, the Yemeni military warned of the recurring dangers posed by Houthi technical failures, which frequently lead to missiles veering off course and striking civilian-populated areas. The military noted that similar incidents have been documented in Sanaa, Taiz, Ibb, and Saada, highlighting a persistent threat to civilian lives and infrastructure.
The armed forces further condemned the Houthi militia’s continued use of ballistic missiles to threaten the Bab al-Mandab Strait and international maritime corridors. Such actions, the military warned, jeopardize the security of global navigation and international trade.
According to the statement, the recent decline in the Houthi militia’s missile capabilities is a direct result of precision strikes targeting weapon depots and launch platforms. These operations, conducted alongside coalition airstrikes in Saada, have also neutralized key field commanders and experts specialized in missile operations, significantly degrading the group's technical proficiency and inventory.
